A fit chica tells her story v.2

Another beautiful, talented, smart, and fit lady has agreed to share her story. I hope you find it inspirational.

Before I start, I'd like you to take note of that fact that our bodies are meant to move. Movement increases your energy levels. And increased energy feels good. Even though, it may be the last thing you're interested in doing, getting up and taking a walk or joining a fitness class can get your energy levels up and going!

FFC:  What gave you the motivation to take working out and fitness seriously?
Dawn: I have always had the struggle of weight issues. I would fluctuate from being thin to overweight every few years. I would often try diets even unhealthy ones to get rid of the weight. This was putting a toll on my body. When I was overweight, I was sluggish, unable to do normal activities without feeling winded and often felt sad, unmotivated and had very low self esteem. I was just plain tired of being tired! Finally I started to move and it became addictive.

FFC: I know healthy eating has also been a big factor in your weight loss journey, how did you change your eating habits?
Dawn: I definitely make healthier choices. For example, I might choose a multigrain bread as opposed to white bread. I think, however, the biggest change is portion control. I may have things I enjoy like chocolate, but limit the portion and the amount of times I may eat it in order to not deprive myself of my treats.

FFC: How do you feel fitness has changed your life?
Dawn: Fitness has opened a whole new door in my life. I enjoy being active, and  movement must be part of my life. Yes I enjoy the health benefits and how it has changed by body, but more than that I love the energy it gives me. It was also an added benefit that through fitness I have also connected in my activities with people with the like-interest of fitness which motivates me to continue to workout.

FFC: Any tips for someone who may feel this is a huge challenge?
Dawn: Don't give up and really find the activity you love the most to help you achieve your goals. Exercise and fitness is often in disguise in things like dancing, walking while window shopping, and sight-seeing on a bike. Find folks with a similar interest to enjoy a fitness activity with you.

FFC: Currently, what's your favorite workout?
Dawn: I'm sure you don't need to ask, Zumba of course.

I swear, I didn't plug that! Actually, Dawn and I met through Zumba. Her story inspired me and I hope this story, and the many more to come continue to motivate and educate!

Have a great weekend everyone!
