The Bedtime Workout

I don't have time!!!!!!!!! Waahhhhhhh. That's what I hear from a lot of people who say they want to workout but don't. I understand. Somehow I have 25 hours in my day because I find time for my workouts yet the others can't. I get it. Well, how about this. Instead of telling you to take it step by step and walk up the stairs instead of taking the elevator, or walk the extra half mile instead of jumping in a cab or in the subway, I am going to tell you what you can do.

Hear me out here. Yes, I've read all of those articles that say working out too late is bad for your sleep. I have experienced it myself. I am not asking someone who has no time to engage in a one hour sweat session, I am asking for you to add some simple exercises to your bedtime ritual. After the dishes are done, the children are in bed, and all the other household chores are out of the way, while you sit in front of your tv . . . get some exercise in.

I know that hour or so that you get to catch up on your DVR shows is very important to you and you aren't going to miss out on any Housewives of __________ trash talking while doing this workout. So here it is:

  • 50 Squats
  • 50 Push ups (on the wall, on your knees or straight leg)
  • 3 - 5 sets of 60-second plank
  • 50 sit ups (not crunches)
  • Stretch session with a five-minute meditation
Do this three times a week as you sit around watching your favorite television show. When starting out, break up the task in to smaller sets like 5 reps of 10 squats, 10 push ups, 1 plank and 10 sit ups then repeat. This way it doesn't seem so daunting. If you have the time, I recommend you take up a fitness routine but if you absolutely cannot find any time, then do this at home. It's better to move a little than not move at all.
