Good morning everyone! I am tagging this as a sponsored post because Cascadian Farms sent me the cereal for free. I wrote about them on this blog in this post and this post and they asked if I would review their Purely O's and Honey Nut O's cereals.
Based on the look of the box alone, my first reaction was to think, "they're like Cheerios." Assuming that the regular consumer, shopping in the supermarket, and strolling through the cereal aisle is thinking the same thing, I'll compare nutritional value and taste to a cereal most Americans are familiar with - Cheerios.
I just happened to have Cheerios at home because my boyfriend likes it. I hate it and think it has no taste to it but perhaps it makes him feel like a kid . . . I don't know. Below you can a find a chart I created with the Nutritional Facts for each cereal.
|Cheerios||Purely O's||Honey Nut Cheerios||Honey Nut O's|
|Calories from fat||15||10||15||10|
As you can see, the differences wouldn't appear very obvious to someone just scanning the aisle - other than the box stating the obvious difference - one is Organic.
The second parameter I decided to compare was the "look" of the cereal. Would a child or adult tell the difference between the two? I know that many parents struggle with providing healthier options for their family. Many times, the look alone will deter a child from even trying something thats better for them. The cereal totally passed the test, there is NO difference to the naked eye between Cheerios and Cascadian Farms Purely O's.
And last but not least, TASTE. Does the Organic Cereal pass the taste test? YES! I tried it and my boyfriend tried it. We couldn't tell any difference between Cheerios and Cascadian Farms Purely O's AT ALL. Like I mentioned before I don't really like Cheerios and to be very honest I felt the same about the CF cereal. The boyfriend said, "they taste the same."
BUT THE WINNER OF THE TASTE TEST BY A MOUTHFUL IS . . . . Cascadian Farms Honey Nut O's. As soon as my boyfriend tried it he said, "WHOA THIS IS SO GOOD." I wish I had my camera on record at that very moment! You can REALLY tell the difference - the honey is sweet but not as sugary as Honey Nut Cheerios and it has a pure taste. The almond flavor is very rich.
This was definitely my favorite cereal of the two. Considering the benefits of going organic, the great taste, and the fact that there is no discernible difference between the Cascadian Farms cereal and the mainstream Cheerios cereal, I'd choose the Honey Nut O's every time.
